Features & use cases
Features
- JSON Lines rows are normalised by tabular-ir before SQL is written, preserving row order and typed values for jsonl-to-sql.
- Nested JSONL values use flattened column names, while SQL receives arrays according to the arrayMode setting.
- The converter treats the file as one logical table, so comments, prose around tables, and source metadata are skipped.
- Numbers, booleans, dates, blanks, and strings are inferred and then serialized in the destination format's native shape.
Use cases
- Translate JSONL integration payloads into SQL for another system.
- Inspect nested fields, arrays, and missing values before handing data to automation.
- Create clean fixtures for tests, demos, or support investigations.
- Share structured exports with teams that need a different file format.

Can I convert JSONL to SQL in the browser?
Yes. Enabled tabular-ir conversions run in a browser worker, so regular web conversions do not upload your file.
Will spreadsheet formulas and styling survive?
No. The tabular engine preserves the visible table values and inferred types, not formulas, charts, merged cells, comments, or styling.
How are nested records handled?
Nested JSON, YAML, and XML objects become flattened columns. Arrays can remain JSON strings or expand into indexed columns.
Can I choose a workbook sheet?
This pair does not read a workbook, so there is no sheet option.
Is the SQL schema guaranteed?
Column names and scalar types are inferred from the input. Review warnings for ragged rows, nested fields, and unsupported destination features.
Everything you need
Browser-first privacy
CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, XLSX, and table conversions run locally when the source and target formats support it.
Warnings, not surprises
Formula drops, flattened arrays, sheet selection, and layout changes are surfaced as conversion warnings.
Batch and zip
Queue multiple files, download individual results, or package them into a zip for handoff.
API, CLI, MCP
Convert from browsers, scripts, automations, and AI assistants with the same warnings and outputs.
Team workspaces
Shared history, API keys, limits, and retention settings keep production conversions controlled.
Retention you control
Browser files never upload; server inputs auto-delete within 24 hours and outputs follow workspace retention.
Comparison
Why teams switch
Where data files are processed
FileTypeConverters: CSV, JSON, YAML, XML, and spreadsheet files can convert in your browser.
Upload-only converters: Most tools upload every file to their servers first.
What you learn about fidelity
FileTypeConverters: Warnings call out flattened arrays, dropped formulas, selected sheets, and layout changes.
Upload-only converters: Downloaded files often arrive with no explanation of what changed.
Batch + zip
FileTypeConverters: Batch files and download individual results or one zip.
Upload-only converters: Batching is often paid-only or missing.
API, CLI, and MCP
FileTypeConverters: Use the web app, automation, or an AI assistant with the same conversion behavior.
Upload-only converters: Many converters are web-form only.
Retention control
FileTypeConverters: Browser files never upload; server inputs are deleted within 24 hours.
Upload-only converters: Retention is usually unclear or not configurable.
Price
FileTypeConverters: Start with free browser conversion and clear paid limits.
Upload-only converters: Limits are often hidden behind upload steps or subscriptions.
