From real runs

What you get — and what changes

  • Image order Kept

Multiple JPGs become one PDF in the same order they were dropped into the browser converter.

  • Page boxes Changed

The pageSize option chooses image-sized pages, A4, or Letter; nonmatching images are scaled to fit the page.

  • Photo pixels Kept

The visible JPG content is placed on PDF pages rather than interpreted as editable objects.

  • Text in scans Changed

Letters on a photographed receipt or document remain pixels, not selectable PDF text.

  • EXIF metadata Lost

Camera EXIF is not copied into the PDF metadata; use the original JPGs if capture metadata is the record.

  • Upload privacy Kept

This pair runs through browser our image engine, so the JPG bytes stay on the device while the PDF is assembled.

Sample conversions

Three photographed receipts

Input
Three phone JPGs dropped as dinner.jpg, taxi.jpg, and hotel.jpg, each with slightly different orientation and margins.
Output
One three-page PDF in that order. The receipt text was visible but not searchable because no OCR was run.

Scanned ID pages for an upload portal

Input
Front and back JPG scans, both 2550×3300 pixels, with the portal asking for a single Letter-sized PDF.
Output
A two-page Letter PDF. Each scan was scaled into the page box; the portal saw one file instead of two images.

A real JPEG → PDF run

We converted our JPEG sample (42 KB) with Image engine on 2026-10-20. It took 19 ms and produced a 33 KB PDF file, 22% smaller than the input. The engine raised 1 warning, listed below.

Is your file a scan?

JPG → PDF produces image-only PDFs: a photographed page still contains pixels, not a text layer. Use Deep Read workflows such as phone-photos-to-scanned-pdf, make-pdf-searchable, or screenshot-to-text when you need searchable or editable text from a scan or phone photo.

Options and when to change them

pageSize
Use auto when each PDF page should match the JPG dimensions; choose A4 or Letter for upload portals that validate paper size.
dpi
Set the DPI to control how many image pixels map to physical inches when pageSize is auto or print sizing matters.

Do it yourself

ImageMagick 7

bash
magick *.jpg out.pdf

Shell glob order is filename order, not drag-and-drop order, and the command runs locally rather than.

Pillow 11

bash
from PIL import Image

pages = [Image.open(p).convert("RGB") for p in ["one.jpg", "two.jpg"]]
pages[0].save("out.pdf", save_all=True, append_images=pages[1:])

Pillow writes image-only PDF pages; it does not OCR photographed text.

JPEG to PDF by API or MCP

The HTTP API and the MCP server run the exact engine this page uses (Image engine); the response carries the same warnings the web converter shows. Check support first with GET /api/v1/pairs?from=jpg&to=pdf.

curl
curl -X POST https://filetypeconverters.com/api/v1/convert \

When this is the wrong conversion

  • Use make-pdf-searchable if the PDF needs selectable text from receipts, forms, or photographed pages.
  • Use PNG → PDF instead when screenshots have sharp text and you want to avoid JPEG artifacts already present in JPG scans.
  • Use a document editor if you need real headings, paragraphs, and tables rather than page images.

JPEG to PDF questions

Can several JPGs become one PDF?

Yes. Drop several JPGs and they become pages in one PDF using the same order shown in the file list.

Will the receipt text be searchable?

No. JPG → PDF does not run OCR. Use the Deep Read make-pdf-searchable workflow for a text layer.

Why did my image get margins in the PDF?

A4 and Letter page sizes may not match the JPG aspect ratio, so the image is scaled inside the paper box. Use auto for image-sized pages.
