Visio 2003 floor-plan sketch
- Input
- 224,768-byte .vsd, one Letter landscape page.
- Output
- One 1584 × 1224 PNG of 76,713 bytes, no ZIP.
VSD → PNG is the quickest way to reuse a diagram from a Visio 2003–2010 file in a modern document when the original drawing will never be edited again.
From real runs
| Element | Result | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Page image | Kept | The Visio 2003 floor-plan sketch rendered as one 1584 × 1224 pixel PNG, the Letter landscape page at 144 DPI. |
| Colour and transparency effects | Kept | The yellow fill and the semi-transparent label background look the same as on the PDF page. |
| Field values | Changed | Unit-formatted fields are drawn with their raw stored numbers, and in an image there is no way to correct them afterwards. |
| Multi-page drawings | Kept | A two-page drawing with an embedded chart came back as a ZIP of two PNGs; its empty second page is a plain white image. |
| Fonts | Changed | Arial and Tahoma labels are drawn in Liberation Sans or Noto Sans, so a label can be a few pixels wider than in Visio. |
| Text | Lost | As with any picture, the labels cannot be searched or copied. |

We converted our Microsoft Visio 2000–2010 sample (220 KB) with Office engine → Image engine on 2026-10-20. It took 2.1 s and produced a 75 KB PNG file, 66% smaller than the input. The engine raised 2 warnings, listed below.
Input · sample.vsd · 220 KB
224,768 bytes
Output · sample.png · 75 KB

soffice --headless --convert-to pdf plan.vsd && pdftoppm -png -r 144 plan.pdf pageThe direct png export of soffice writes the first page only, at 96 DPI.
The HTTP API and the MCP server run the exact engine this page uses (Office engine → Image engine); the response carries the same warnings the web converter shows. Check support first with GET /api/v1/pairs?from=vsd&to=png.

Yes. Visio 2003–2010 XML drawings are read like .vsd files and produce the same one-image-per-page output.
At the default 144 DPI a Letter page is 1584 × 1224 pixels, enough for a slide or a document. For print use dpi 300, which doubles both dimensions.
The drawing contains an empty page. Visio keeps it as a tab and so do we; delete that image or set max_pages to skip past it.
