Office clip-art
- Input
- 45,876-byte EMF server icon, 28.4 × 29.7 mm.
- Output
- 16,297-byte PDF, one 88 × 92 pt page, in 1.7 s; the icon's 12 bitmap parts are embedded as images.
EMF → PDF keeps a Windows chart or diagram as vectors in a format every reader opens, with the page cut to the picture rather than an empty A4 sheet.
From real runs
| Element | Result | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Page size | Changed | The PDF page is trimmed to the drawing plus a margin of at least 4 pt: the 28.4 × 29.7 mm clip-art became an 88 × 92 pt page. |
| Vectors | Kept | Lines, bars and curves stay vector paths; a sine-wave plot keeps its smooth curve when zoomed in a PDF reader. |
| Text | Kept | Sprint names and axis numbers in the burndown chart are real text in Noto Sans that you can search and copy. |
| Large pictures | Changed | A 338.8 mm wide slide-sized EMF was reduced to a 552 × 314 pt page, so it no longer prints at its original physical size. |
| Code-page text | Changed | Text written in an older Windows code page rather than Unicode, like the Hebrew chart labels we tried, can turn into the wrong characters. |
| Empty or damaged files | Lost | A truncated metafile that draws nothing is refused instead of producing a blank page. |

We converted our Enhanced Metafile (EMF) sample (45 KB) with Office engine on 2026-10-20. It took 1.6 s and produced a 16 KB PDF file, 64% smaller than the input. The engine raised no warnings.

LibreOffice
soffice --headless --convert-to pdf figure.emfPlaces the picture on an A4 page with wide white margins; trim it with a PDF tool afterwards if the page size matters.
The HTTP API and the MCP server run the exact engine this page uses (Office engine); the response carries the same warnings the web converter shows. Check support first with GET /api/v1/pairs?from=emf&to=pdf.

--output output.pdfYes. Lines, shapes and text are drawn as vectors; only bitmaps that were inside the EMF stay bitmaps.
We trim the page to the drawing so the picture can be placed straight into another document. A clip-art icon gets an icon-sized page.
Yes; a tight vector PDF is the usual way to include a figure with includegraphics, and it scales without blurring.
