EML to PDF converter

EML to PDF renders one email message, not a reconstructed thread, with optional headers at the top and attachments listed rather than embedded.

  • Converted with Mail engine → Document engine · input deleted within 24 h
  • Free: 5 conversions a day · 5 MB each

From real runs

What you get — and what changes

  • Message headers Kept

    From, To, CC, Date, and Subject render at the top when includeHeaders is enabled.

  • HTML body Changed

    HTML is sanitized before PDF generation; scripts, event handlers, remote tracking pixels, and unsafe URLs are removed.

  • Plain-text body Kept

    Text-only messages render with line breaks and quoted text blocks preserved where the MIME body exposes them.

  • Inline images Kept

    CID-referenced inline images are embedded when the matching MIME part is present in the EML file.

  • Attachments Changed

    Attachments are not embedded in the PDF; they are listed in a manifest table with name, size, and media type.

  • Threads Lost

    A single EML file does not reconstruct mailbox threads or conversation context outside the message body.

  • Remote resources Lost

    Remote images and tracking pixels are blocked instead of fetched, so the PDF is deterministic and does not ping senders.

Sample conversions

Support email with inline screenshot

Input
86 KB EML, HTML and text alternatives, From/To/Date/Subject headers, one CID PNG screenshot, and two attached log files.
Output
142 KB PDF, headers rendered, sanitized HTML body kept, CID screenshot embedded, log files listed in an attachment table with name/size/type but not embedded.

Newsletter with tracking pixels

Input
214 KB EML, responsive HTML, remote images, one 1x1 tracking pixel, no attachments, and quoted unsubscribe footer.
Output
97 KB PDF, scripts and tracking pixel removed, remote hero image omitted, footer text visible, no attempt to fetch external assets.

A real EML → PDF run

We converted our EML sample (299 B) with Mail engine → Document engine on 2026-09-11. It took 51 ms and produced a 14 KB PDF file, 48× larger than the input. The engine raised no warnings.

Input · sample.eml · 299 B

Output · sample.pdf · 14 KB

Options and when to change them

includeHeaders
Leave on for legal, support, or audit exports; turn off only when the PDF is for reading the message body alone.
sanitizeHtml
Keep enabled for all untrusted mail. It removes scripts, tracking pixels, and unsafe remote content before rendering.
attachmentManifest
Use when you need a visible inventory of files without embedding or converting the attachments themselves.

Do it yourself

Python email module plus Pandoc

bash
python - <<'PY'
from email import policy
from email.parser import BytesParser
msg = BytesParser(policy=policy.default).parse(open('in.eml','rb'))
html = msg.get_body(preferencelist=('html','plain')).get_content()
open('body.html','w',encoding='utf-8').write(html)
PY
pandoc body.html -o out.pdf

Sanitize untrusted HTML and decide how to inventory attachments; the short script does not embed CID images or create a manifest.

EML to PDF by API or MCP

The HTTP API and the MCP server run the exact engine this page uses (Mail engine → Document engine); the response carries the same warnings the web converter shows. Check support first with GET /api/v1/pairs?from=eml&to=pdf.

curl
curl -X POST https://filetypeconverters.com/api/v1/convert \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $FTC_API_KEY" \
  -F "file=@input.eml" -F "from=eml" -F "to=pdf" \
  --output output.pdf

When this is the wrong conversion

  • Do not use this when attachments must be converted and appended; this PDF lists attachments instead of embedding them.
  • Export from a mailbox or e-discovery tool when you need a complete thread with surrounding messages.
  • Keep the original EML alongside the PDF when headers, MIME boundaries, DKIM signatures, or forensic metadata matter.

EML to PDF questions

Are EML attachments embedded in the PDF?

No. Attachments are not embedded. The PDF includes a manifest table with each attachment's name, size, and media type.

Does the converter load remote email images?

No. Remote images and tracking pixels are removed or left unfetched during sanitization so conversion does not contact the sender.

Can one EML become a full conversation PDF?

No. EML is one message file. Quoted replies inside the body render, but mailbox thread reconstruction is outside this conversion.

What happens to inline CID images?

Inline images are embedded when the HTML references a CID and the matching MIME image part is present in the EML.
