From real runs

What you get — and what changes

  • Slide text Kept

The converted ODP content.xml contained the title, prepared-for text, KPI table labels, bullets, and action items.

  • Tables Changed

The PowerPoint table became OpenDocument drawing and table markup, with a TablePreview image also written into the package.

  • Slides Kept

The two-slide PPTX source remained a two-slide ODP, as confirmed by text from both source slides in content.xml.

  • Theme Changed

PowerPoint theme information was translated into OpenDocument styles and font-face declarations, not copied directly.

  • Speaker notes Changed

Notes can survive only where our office engine can map them into ODP presentation metadata, so presenter view needs checking.

  • Animations Changed

PowerPoint transitions and builds may be simplified when moved into the OpenDocument animation vocabulary.

  • PowerPoint-only features Lost

Embedded Office-specific controls, VBA projects, and some SmartArt behaviors do not become native ODP features.

Sample conversions

Feedback Atlas deck

Input
Two-slide PPTX generated by our document engine with a title slide, KPI table, emphasized CSAT figure, bullets, and numbered decisions.
Output
ODP kept all visible tested text and wrote content.xml plus a Pictures/TablePreview1.svm object for the table preview.

PowerPoint handoff to Impress

Input
PPTX intended for an Impress user who needs to adjust copy but not preserve PowerPoint macros.
Output
The result opened as an editable ODP package, but theme and table internals were translated rather than preserved as PowerPoint parts.

PowerPoint PPTX to OpenDocument Presentation by API or MCP

The HTTP API and the MCP server run the exact engine this page uses (Office engine); the response carries the same warnings the web converter shows. Check support first with GET /api/v1/pairs?from=pptx&to=odp.

curl
curl -X POST https://filetypeconverters.com/api/v1/convert \

When this is the wrong conversion

  • Use /convert/pptx-to-pdf when the recipient only needs to view or approve the slides.
  • Keep PPTX if the deck contains VBA, SmartArt-heavy diagrams, or PowerPoint-specific animation timing.

PowerPoint PPTX to OpenDocument Presentation questions

Will PowerPoint tables be editable in ODP?

The text and table shape can be edited after conversion, but the internal representation changes. In our run our office engine also wrote a table preview graphic.

Does PPTX to ODP preserve slide masters exactly?

No. Our office engine translates theme and master information into OpenDocument styles, so placeholder behavior can differ in Impress.

Can this convert macro-enabled PowerPoint content?

It can read many deck objects, but VBA and Office-specific controls are not native ODP features. Keep the source file if automation is important.
