From real runs

What you get — and what changes

  • Slides Kept

Each slide is rendered as one PDF page in deck order.

  • Speaker notes Lost

Notes pages are not included in this export path.

  • Hidden slides Kept

Hidden slides are included because the converter renders the file contents rather than slideshow visibility.

  • Animations and transitions Changed

Animations and transitions flatten to a final static state on the slide page.

  • Embedded video Changed

Video becomes a poster frame; playback is not preserved in the PDF.

  • Fonts Changed

Fonts missing on the server are substituted, which can shift line breaks inside text boxes.

  • Charts and SmartArt Changed

Common Office charts render, but SmartArt and complex effects can differ from PowerPoint's renderer.

Sample conversions

Sales deck with video

Input
24-slide PPTX sales deck with branded fonts, three hidden appendix slides, slide transitions, and one embedded product video.
Output
The PDF had 27 pages because hidden appendix slides were included. Transitions were absent, and the product video showed only its poster frame.

Training deck with notes

Input
38-slide training deck with speaker notes, screenshots, animated callouts, and a quiz slide built from shapes.
Output
Slides rendered as static pages with screenshots and shapes visible. Speaker notes were not present, and callout animations appeared only in their final positions.

A real PowerPoint PPTX → PDF run

Options and when to change them

pageSize
Use when the PDF pages should be forced to Letter or A4 for print review rather than deck dimensions.
margins
Use for print-oriented output with white margins around slides; leave unset for full-slide pages.

Do it yourself

LibreOffice

bash
soffice --headless --convert-to pdf deck.pptx --outdir .

A desktop export includes hidden slides and uses locally installed fonts, just as our office engine does with its own font set.

PowerPoint PPTX to PDF by API or MCP

The HTTP API and the MCP server run the exact engine this page uses (Office engine); the response carries the same warnings the web converter shows. Check support first with GET /api/v1/pairs?from=pptx&to=pdf.

curl
curl -X POST https://filetypeconverters.com/api/v1/convert \

When this is the wrong conversion

  • If speaker notes are the deliverable, export notes pages from PowerPoint instead of this slide-only route.
  • If animations are part of the message, export a video rather than a PDF.
  • If hidden slides must stay hidden, remove or duplicate the deck without them before converting.

PowerPoint PPTX to PDF questions

Are speaker notes included?

No. This route exports slides only, one slide per PDF page.

Why did hidden slides appear in the PDF?

Our office engine renders the deck contents and includes hidden slides instead of following slideshow visibility.

What happens to animations?

Animations and transitions flatten to static slide pages, usually showing the final state.

Will embedded video play inside the PDF?

No. Embedded video is represented by a poster frame.
