Network diagram as JPEGs
- Input
- 238,720-byte .vsdx with four A4 portrait tabs of boxes and connectors.
- Output
- 156,991-byte ZIP with four 1191 × 1684 JPEGs, against 184,449 bytes for the PNG version.
VSDX → JPG exists for the upload box that only says JPEG; for most diagrams the JPEG is barely smaller than a PNG and a little softer.
From real runs
| Element | Result | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Page images | Kept | The four-tab network diagram produced four JPEGs in one ZIP, in the same order as the Visio tabs. |
| File size | Changed | Line drawings do not shrink much as JPEG: the 13-page document was 631,997 bytes as JPEGs against 635,689 as PNGs, while the ring map dropped from 479,530 to 362,661 bytes. |
| Connectors and labels | Changed | At quality 90 the connectors and box labels looked like the PNG at normal zoom; JPEG gains little here because most of each page is plain white. |
| Colour fills | Kept | The red, orange and green rings of the architecture map kept their colours, and the server icons inside them stayed recognisable. |
| Transparency | Lost | JPEG has no alpha channel, so each Visio page is flattened onto white paper. |
| Page size | Kept | Each JPEG follows its own Visio page, so an A4 cover and a wide planning sheet from the same file produce images with different shapes. |

We converted our Microsoft Visio sample (233 KB) with Office engine → Image engine on 2026-10-20. It took 2.9 s and produced a 153 KB JPEG file, 34% smaller than the input. The engine raised 3 warnings, listed below.
Input · sample.vsdx · 233 KB
ZIP with 64 parts
Output · sample.zip · 153 KB
ZIP with 4 page images (sample-page-1.jpg … sample-page-4.jpg)

The HTTP API and the MCP server run the exact engine this page uses (Office engine → Image engine); the response carries the same warnings the web converter shows. Check support first with GET /api/v1/pairs?from=vsdx&to=jpg.

PNG, nearly always. Diagrams are lines, text and flat colour, which PNG stores without loss at a similar size; JPEG only wins when a page is dominated by photos or screenshots.
That is the default: each page is rendered separately and the images are zipped when there is more than one.
JPEG compression softens sharp one-pixel edges when you zoom far in. Raise quality to 95, raise dpi so the lines are thicker in pixels, or switch to PNG.
