House floor plan, AutoCAD 2004 DXF
- Input
- 1,117,145-byte DXF with walls, doors, fixtures, room labels and 63 dimensions.
- Output
- 42,500-byte PDF, one 292 × 278 pt page, in 2.2 s. Everything except the dimension numbers is there.
DXF → PDF is for showing a CAD drawing to someone without CAD software; it is a viewing copy, not a plot at scale, and dimension values do not appear.
From real runs
| Element | Result | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Lines, arcs, polylines and hatches | Kept | A house floor plan with 624 lines, 124 polylines, 20 arcs and 13 hatches drew every wall, door swing and fixture. |
| Colours | Kept | Entity and layer colours come through: blue outlines, red doors and the cyan FLOOR PLAN title, while colour 7 (white on a CAD screen) is drawn near-black on the white page. |
| Text | Kept | Room names such as DINING ROOM and MSTR. BATH and sizes like 7' x 5'7 are searchable text in the PDF. |
| Dimension figures | Lost | None of the 63 dimensions in the floor plan printed its measurement: the dimension lines and arrows are there, the 16'-0" style numbers are not. |
| Scale and units | Changed | The drawing is scaled to fit about 293 pt (10 cm) and the page trimmed to it, so the PDF cannot be measured or printed at 1:50 or 1:100. |
| 3D solids and model views | Lost | Two 3D solid boxes and a 3D pyramid produced nothing visible, so those files are refused with a message. |
| Multi-line notes (MTEXT) | Lost | All nine MTEXT notes on the floor plan, such as the shear-panel and attic-access notes, were missing, and a file holding only MTEXT columns came out empty and was refused. |
| DXF versions | Kept | ASCII DXF from R12 through AutoCAD 2018 opened; one 2007 file written by LibreCAD failed to load, and binary DXF and DWG are refused. |

We converted our AutoCAD DXF sample (183 KB) with Office engine on 2026-10-20. It took 1.7 s and produced a 28 KB PDF file, 85% smaller than the input. The engine raised 1 warning, listed below.
Input · sample.dxf · 183 KB
187,638 bytes
Output · sample.pdf · 28 KB

ezdxf (Python)
pip install ezdxf matplotlib && ezdxf draw --background WHITE -o plan.pdf plan.dxfDraws the dimension figures and MTEXT notes that our route skips; text comes out as outlines and the PDF is much larger.
LibreOffice
soffice --headless --convert-to pdf plan.dxfSame import as described above, centred on an A4 page.
The HTTP API and the MCP server run the exact engine this page uses (Office engine); the response carries the same warnings the web converter shows. Check support first with GET /api/v1/pairs?from=dxf&to=pdf.

--output output.pdfThe measurement on a dimension is stored as multi-line text, which our office engine does not draw, so you get the lines and arrows only. When a DXF contains dimensions or MTEXT notes we warn you in the result.
No. The drawing is fitted to a small page and its CAD units are dropped. Print to scale from a CAD program or viewer.
Binary DXF, drawings that contain only 3D solids, and files that produce nothing visible. You get a message saying which case applies.
