From real runs

What you get — and what changes

  • Slide pages Kept

The rich two-slide ODP exported as a two-page PDF with one page for the KPI slide and one for the bullet slide.

  • Text Kept

PDF text extraction found the Feedback Atlas title, board-prepared line, action items, and renewal note.

  • Tables Changed

The KPI table rendered visually, but extracted text showed cells in column groups rather than as a table object.

  • Bullets and numbering Kept

The bullet dots and numbered decision lines were visible in the PDF text probe from the rich ODP run.

  • Animations Lost

Transitions and build steps are flattened because this PDF export captures static slide pages only.

  • Editability Lost

Shapes and text boxes are no longer editable as Impress objects once the presentation is exported to PDF.

  • Fonts Changed

Server fonts control rendering, so unavailable presentation fonts may be substituted before the PDF is written.

Sample conversions

Board deck PDF

Input
Two-slide ODP with a title, KPI table, Enterprise pipeline bullet, CSAT figure, and two numbered action items.
Output
The PDF kept both pages and visible text. The table extracted as Metric, Q2, Q3 groups, not as structured rows.

Minimal ODP fixture

Input
One-slide fixture whose content.xml carried no useful body text.
Output
The output was a valid one-page PDF around 5 KB, but text extraction returned only a page break.

Do it yourself

LibreOffice

bash
soffice --headless --convert-to pdf slides.odp --outdir .

PDF is good for review, but test animation-heavy decks by opening the source in Impress first.

OpenDocument Presentation to PDF by API or MCP

The HTTP API and the MCP server run the exact engine this page uses (Office engine); the response carries the same warnings the web converter shows. Check support first with GET /api/v1/pairs?from=odp&to=pdf.

curl
curl -X POST https://filetypeconverters.com/api/v1/convert \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $FTC_API_KEY" \
  -F "file=@input.odp" -F "from=odp" -F "to=pdf" \
  --output output.pdf
API reference

When this is the wrong conversion

  • Use /convert/odp-to-pptx when the next person needs editable slides in Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Keep the ODP when speaker notes, editable masters, or Impress-only animation controls matter.

OpenDocument Presentation to PDF questions

Does ODP to PDF preserve table structure?

It preserves the visual table on the slide page. PDF text extraction sees positioned text, so downstream tools may not recover row and column relationships.

Can I edit the ODP after it becomes PDF?

Not as presentation objects. The PDF is a fixed rendering, so keep the ODP for future slide editing.

Why do fonts change after ODP export?

Our office engine renders with fonts available on the server. If the source uses a font that is not installed, a substitute affects wrapping and metrics.
