Is your file a scan?

TIFF is decoded to a PNG image before AI Deep Read and costs 1 credit for the image that reaches the model. Multi-page TIFFs are reduced to the first frame, and the tested single-page file had no ICC profile or alpha after app conversion.

When this is the wrong conversion

If the TIFF has several pages, split it first or convert each page separately because /convert/tiff-to-txt reads the first frame for Deep Read.
If the scan is a table, use /convert/tiff-to-docx or a spreadsheet-oriented workflow after confirming the pair supports your table shape.
If you need a display image rather than OCR text, use /convert/tiff-to-png and keep the raster output.

Why does TIFF to TXT mention PNG decoding?

The vision model does not receive TIFF bytes directly. The imaging sidecar opens the TIFF, applies its decode behavior, and sends a PNG page into Deep Read.

Will a multi-page TIFF produce all pages of text?

No. The current image decode path seeks the first frame before OCR. Split a fax or scanned packet into individual page images before converting to TXT.

Does TIFF color management affect OCR?

The tested app-generated TIFF had no ICC profile and decoded to readable text. If your archive relies on profiles or unusual bit depths, treat TXT as a transcript and keep the original TIFF.
