RAR4 issue
- Input
- Planet Comics #35, an 18,571,883-byte RAR4 .cbr of 52 JPEG pages.
- Output

CBR → EPUB gets a RAR comic onto readers that know EPUB but not RAR, without shrinking or recompressing the scans on the way.
From real runs
| Element | Result | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| RAR4 and RAR5 | Kept | Planet Comics #35 (RAR4) and Timmy Toodles (RAR5) both became valid EPUBs; EPUBCheck 5.2.1 found nothing to report in either. |
| Scans | Kept | The 52 Planet Comics JPEGs and the 28 Timmy Toodles PNGs sit in the EPUB exactly as they were in the RAR. |
| Reading order | Kept | Pages follow the numbers in their names, so the out-of-order Terrors of the Jungle #21 archive still opens on its cover. |
| Fixed layout | Kept | Each page has its own viewport matching its pixel size, so wide covers and narrow inside pages both fill the screen without cropping. |
| Page size on small screens | Changed | Full-resolution scans are kept, so a 2305 × 3246 PNG page is much larger than an e-reader screen and pages may turn more slowly on older devices. |
| Encrypted archives | Lost | A password-protected RAR cannot be opened, so there is nothing to put in the EPUB; the conversion stops with a message. |

calibre
ebook-convert comic.cbr comic.epubDebian's calibre 6.13 package could not open CBR at all because its RAR module is missing; calibre's own installer includes it.
The HTTP API and the MCP server run the exact engine this page uses (Image engine); the response carries the same warnings the web converter shows. Check support first with GET /api/v1/pairs?from=cbr&to=epub.

--output output.epubRAR compresses PNG pages harder than the ZIP container inside an EPUB. JPEG comics stay about the same size; the PNG picture book grew from 36.8 MB to 40.1 MB.
Yes. Our RAR5 sample converted in 1.4 s. What it cannot handle is encryption or a split set of .part files.
Yes, when the archive's ComicInfo.xml marks it as Manga YesAndRightToLeft. Without that file there is no way to tell, and pages run left to right.
