A real FictionBook FB2 → EPUB run

We converted our FictionBook FB2 sample (549 B) with Ebook engine on 2026-09-11. It took 307 ms and produced a 30 KB EPUB file, 56× larger than the input. The engine raised no warnings.

When this is the wrong conversion

  • Use /convert/fb2-to-pdf when you need fixed pages rather than another reflowable ebook package.
  • Use /convert/fb2-to-txt when the goal is only to extract readable prose.
  • Do not choose EPUB if your downstream archive specifically requires original FB2 XML.

FictionBook FB2 to EPUB questions

Is FB2 to EPUB handled by our ebook engine?

No. The app resolves FB2 to EPUB to our ebook engine, because our ebook engine only emits XML, HTML, Markdown, and TXT. The ebook engine output we inspected was a zipped EPUB.

Does FB2 author metadata survive?

It did for the sample fixture. Stephen Crane appeared in the EPUB creator field after conversion.

Why is the EPUB much larger than the FB2?

Our ebook engine adds EPUB package files, styles, navigation, and cover assets. The 549 byte FB2 sample became a 150,479 byte EPUB.
